- Digital Media Project - Creating a Legacy - The banner project we did in this course gave me an idea to teach patients in the hospital how to create fun images of their families and friends. I use the image I created as an example on how to blend 3 separate images into one. This supports patients innovative thinking and inventiveness by memory making and legacy building.
- Intro to Web Development - Stanford Kids - For my final website in Web Development I created a website for pediatric patients and their families preparing them for a visit to our Emergency Department. The site has information on who they will meet, what they will experience and resources for the whole family. This promotes innovative thinking by empowering children to learn about their own care and to be educated about a visit to the Emergency Department.
Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
- Assessing Meaningful Learning project - The purpose of the lesson plan is to learn about the separate human body components and the systems that work to together to construct the human body into a functioning unit.
I added adaptions to each category for pediatric patients. This engages real-world issues for pediatric patients due the fact that can directly correlate their reason for hospitalization to the lesson. - Technology Integrative Learning Plan - Using Virtual Reality (VR) the Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLS) will be able to offer 1:1 Virtual Reality field trips for pediatric patients and their families. We will utilize Discovery Education to break down barriers to exploration and to increase patient satisfaction. This supports exploring real-world issues by offering pediatric patients the ability to virtually leave their room and learn about the world.
Promote student reaction using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning and creative processes.
- All about (ME)dia project - For the Middle School media class as way to get to know each other we created a collaborative slide show. The slide show supported collaborative learning and creative processes by allowing them the opportunity to teach the class about themselves and to explore Google slideshows and its supporting tools for creativity.
- Pediatric Heart Transplant Interactive Teaching Album - The teaching album was created to teach patients in heart failure and who potentially needed to be listed for transplant what it was like to have a heart transplant by following another patients journey from heart failure to transplant. This was created in collaboration with the entire medical team, the patient and his family as part of a research study measuring children's anxiety before and after education session for a heart transplant. This copy is a PDF example. The actual copy has interactive links to each image and links to help prepare patient to understand and plan for heart transplant.
