Reflection:
Simply put- Terrified. I remember thinking when I first read the syllabus, "a webpage, I'll make my own webpage, nope it'll never happen". No person was more surprised than me when I actually LOVED this course! When I clicked my HTML for the first time and it actually did something I couldn't have been happier if I had won an Olympic medal. I was surprised how coding made sense and it was almost cathartic like putting together a puzzle. I was intrigued with all the steps involved in creating a working site. The planning, pilot, tests and then result. I put together a meaningful outreach project for the class, which is a preparation site for children who will be visiting the Emergency Department. The site, while not perfect showcased everything I learned including some tricks I picked up in digital media by creating my own banner. Early on in the class I had several friends ask me why in the world are you learning HTML? My first response was “I have no idea”. After a few weeks the answer came to me that learning HTML and teaching children these skills can enhance the learning experience, provide meaningful opportunities, be a fun outlet for creativity and learning and that to me, the person who never imagined being able to do something like this, coded a puzzle that to me looks like a masterpiece.
